This isn't to say that the i9-8950HK is slow because it is one of the fastest mobile CPUs available and about 50 percent faster than the i5-8300H, but its performance-per-dollar is quite poor for this particular implementation. The result is a more compact system that serves as an evolutionary step forward for the series while feeling just as tough. The Precision 7530 retains the MIL-STD 810G certification of the 7510 with a similar magnesium alloy skeleton but in slightly smaller dimensions. Is this latest system a massive improvement over its two-year old predecessor? We'll be comparing it to direct competitors like the HP ZBook 15 and Lenovo ThinkPad P52 along with the 2016 Precision 7510 that it replaces. Our test unit today is fully configured to represent the best that the Precision 7530 has to offer. As with most dedicated workstations from Dell, the range of SKUs is much wider than the consumer XPS lineup to cover as many use cases as possible. The lower-end configuration starts with just the Core i5-8300H and integrated UHD Graphics for only $1200 USD. The system can be configured with up to a Core i9-8950HK CPU, Quadro P3200 GPU, 4K UHD display, three internal storage bays, and a large 97 Wh battery. While we find the claim debatable, its specifications are still nothing to scoff at. The latest model in the 7000 series is the Precision 7530 that Dell is advertising as "the world's most powerful 15-inch workstation" that also happens to be VR ready.
